So, I’m going to end ‘My Journey Through Life’ and change it to my teacher training blog.

This weekend I’ll shut down this blog and resurrect it into my teacher training one :)

No I’m Not

I’ve decided to not shut down this blog. I’m going to use it as a place to try and be a bit creative and actually CREATE something, even if no one will read it.

I’ll be back in a few days.

Shutting this blog down…

No one reads, I’m shutting this thing down - ditto the podcast!

Shutdown Day

Filed under: Personal on Saturday, February 24th, 2007 by Rich South | No Comments

Shutdown Day is a day when you are asked to turn off your computer and not use it for a whole day. It’s a Saturday so it shouldn’t interfere with work and I’m actually going to try and do it. I’ve had days, weeks without using the computer but that’s because I couldn’t (I was camping or on holiday), but this will be a concious decision to not use the computer for a day.

I’m also going to not turn on my mobile phone and see what happens, I’m not a huge mobile user but it’ll be an interesting experiment to be ‘off the grid’ as it is known.

I’ve used the day as an excuse to create a proper dashboard widget (I’ve made a few but they didn’t have any real use) which I’ll try and add here.

I’m going to paper blog my experiences and post them here afterwards.

Well, I’m off to play poker in a bit, so maybe I’ll blog tomorrow.

I’m back

Filed under: Personal on Monday, January 1st, 2007 by Rich South | No Comments

So, I’ve made a new years resolution (probably the same resolution as most other bloggers) to keep my blog up to date and to try and blog as much as possible.  I was reading a good blog post about how blogging is good for you as it helps you organise your thoughts.

Blogging more often means I’m going to have to find a proper direction for this blog which will be interesting but I actually think a proper mix of my own stuff and tech stuff that interests me will be fine (after all I am a geek and that is who I am and so tech stuff is in a way, a part of me).

This is just a quick post but I’ll probably add a proper post for today a bit later on, right now I need to tidy up my room a bit because it’s slightly messy right now, also I want to sort out how people will connect to this blog (maybe by getting a proper domain).

I hope that people will be reading this because part of the reason for writing a blog is for people to read it but if they don’t then that’s their loss :)

Microsoft Startup Sound

Filed under: Tech, Microsoft on Monday, November 13th, 2006 by Rich South | No Comments

It took 18 months for this 4 second clip to be created for the new Windows Vista startup sound.  Yeah, and it’s soooo inventive, my favourite so far has to be the startup sound you got with Windows 95 with the electric guitars and everything but this just sounds too much like the old one but does kinda fit with the whole look and feel of Vista.   Hey-ho.

Apple MacBooks

The Apple MacBooks have had an update to Core2Duos so the nice shiney new processor is in my favorite notebook computer. It’s on the Apple website. Check them out. If I were to get a new notebook, it’d be the Core2Duo 2GHz (Black) MacBook. Yummy.

Jogging still

Filed under: Personal on Friday, November 3rd, 2006 by Rich South | No Comments

So YES I’ve been running every morning since Monday and it’s really good to have a reason to get out of bed in the morning and get up and do something and I’m getting further and further every day and I’m really pleased with myself.  I really need to get healthier because it’s not good to do as little exercise as I do (I just walk to places).  I’m going to jog tomorrow morning (Saturday) so I’m a glutton for punishment because I’m going to get up at the same time I usually get up :s
It’s the Hamstel firework night tomorrow and I’m being one of those people who tell you not to cross the line :) well… it’s getting me in free so it’s well worth it :)

Aperture

Filed under: Apple, Personal on Friday, November 3rd, 2006 by Rich South | No Comments

So, Apple has released a demo of Aperture which you can download for free!  I’ve downloaded it and the only catch it you have to give your e-mail address and receive mail from them but most people already have that so it’s not a problem.  Anyway, Aperture is Apple’s high-end image editing program and I’m very happy to have a trial I can use for 30 days even if it’s just enough time to edit my university photos.
